Instructions for David Rees' Quiz Model
These instructions assume the use of Netscape
Communicator. If you don't have Netscape, Download
Netscape Communicator 4.7. The instructions use
French Netscape indications such as 'fichier' instead of 'file'.
1. Select your quiz model:
Go to 'Fichier', 'enregistrer sous' and copy
the quiz onto your computer or diskette. Close the model file.
2. Find the 'fichier' 'model.html' and go to 'Edition, copier'. Give
the copy a name such as quiz_1.html.
Work on the copied file (quiz_1.html), and
keep
the original file (model.html) safe and unchanged.
3. Open quiz_1.html. Go to 'fichier', and click on 'modifier
la page (edit page)'.
4. Go to Editor and click on 'source HTML' .
This should automatically open up a programme such
as Word Pad.
If it is not automatic, go to ‘preferences’ in the
Editor and select a programme (such as Word Pad or Bloc Notes) so that
it becomes automatic
5. When Wordpad opens up you will see the quiz model in its original
HTML language. Be careful not to change any of the punctuation, as these
control the codes
6. Scroll down the page until you see a gap followed by a line in capitals
reading:
<BODY TEXT="#000000" BGCOLOR="#00FF99" LINK="#0000FF" VLINK="#FF0063">
This is where you start work. Simply fill in the information, taking
care not to change any punctuation. For example, where it says ‘Title’,
replace the word title with your quiz title.
7. Check out your changes every now and then by closing the Word Pad
page ('x' at top right-hand corner), and recording the changes. You will
then be asked to confirm the changes on your Netscape Composer page. Confirm
the changes and then click on ‘aperçu' (open browser)) to activate
the page. If the page is satisfactory, close the browser (Navigator), and
from your Composer page go once again to Edition - source HTML and
carry on.
8. You can increase the number of wrong answers by as many as you like;
just follow the same punctuation.
Remember to put the correct answer first.
9. If you do not want to include any additional information, type a
space between the punctuation marks.
10. Avoid using apostrophes in 'correct answer' and 'additional information'
as these will be understood as HTML codes. Therefore, instead of 'don't'
- write 'do not'.
11. The size of the answer box will automatically increase according
to the length of the additional information and the length of the answer.
Try to keep it as short as possible. If the box covers up the questions,
simply shorten the questions and the answer and / or additional information,
until it all fits into place.
12. You can increase the number of questions by copying the same punctuation
and adding the new question number.
13. You can change the background colour and image by using 'format
- propriétés et couleurs de la page (format - background
colours)
